Quick Rules for Area Rugs

Quick Rules for Area Rugs

Living Room

  • Use 8'x10' or larger so your rug fits under or in front of all main furniture.
  • Keep rug 6–8 inches wider than your sofa on both sides. Be consistent: all furniture legs on or off the rug.

Dining Room

  • Choose a rug that’s at least 36" bigger than your table on all sides. Go for flatweave or low-pile rugs — easy to clean and slide chairs.

Bedroom

  • Rug should extend at least 24" around the bed
  • Size guide: Twin (5'x8'), Full (6'x9'), Queen (8'x10'), King (9'x12'). Hallways (Runners)
  • Leave 3" between rug and walls
  • Avoid runners that are too long or match the hallway length exactly. Make sure doors can open easily over the rug.
